Spring/Summer DICKENS TAVERN PATIO Concert Series

5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

When you’re talking about Sandra MacDougall aka Songbabe, most people simply say, “She’s got some pipes”. Sandra’s roots in music go back to when she was a small child growing up in the Boston area where she attended a church with a strong musical element complete with a grand hall and red velvet curtained stage.

“The first time I was on stage, I was about five years old” she remembers, “singing The Goodship Lolipop before a large audience”. Acting in a melodrama group at her church and active in her school’s chorus and musical theater she was also in dance school. She was always the loudest voice in the choir and a performer by nature much to the annoyance of her family at times. She was always staging a backyard show in her neighborhood.
Sandra continues to write music and can be found playing in the Sierra Nevada foothills and the Sacramento area.

Singing went by the wayside in her late teens until later when some musician friends from Intel, where Sandra worked for a number of years, found out she was a singer and recruited her for an annual musicfest in the mountains of Santa Cruz. Next thing you know, she’s was belting it out again and discovered she was a natural songwriter.
Sandra was a founding member of the now defunct Highway 49 band named after the highway that meanders through Northern California where she now lives. Former members on the recordings are: Jeff Summers, lead vocals/guitar, Songbabe, lead vocals/guitar, Bob Gilberg, bass, Travis Crocker, drums, Steven Fournier, lead guitar, Joe Berrumen, trumpet, Katie Borcz, flute and sax, Ron Cuhna, trombone and Kurt Pearsall, trumpet.
