The Symbols are a popular rock/soul/blues/funk trio from Fort Collins, Colorado with an undeniable raw talent and energy, combined with a knack for writing great songs. Founded in 2011 by vocalist/bass-player Mer Sal and guitar virtuoso Jasco (Blinddog Smokin'), The Symbols pack a mean punch with touring clinician drummer Don Stahl (Joey Dee and the Starliters, Damon Fowler).
The Symbols write, record, and perform songs that have inspired movie soundtracks, public service announcements, and commercial advertisements. Many of the band's songs sound like something you might hear on the modern radio. The Symbols feel an intellectual and spiritual influence from modern day Jeff Beck, with deep-pocket grooves, and progressive female croon/neo-soul vocals that could be recommended if you like Amy Winehouse or Jay Kay. Critics have referred to the sound made by The Symbols as "rollicking," "rocking and danceable," yet at the same time "chill and zen." The crooning, jazzing vocals and guitar string-bending/whammy bar manipulations coming out of this band can be heard nowhere else. One night a fan of The Symbols coined their sound “Spiritual Porn Rock”, and it stuck.
